The Friday Brief for October 2, 2026: Multibillion Dollar Deals and CPHI Preview

Plus, Eutecma acquires Tempaid and Fresenius buys out the remainder of mAbxience from Insud Pharma.

Editor’s Take: We are ramping up for CPHI Milan, while reviewing a week of big moves by the industry’s biggest companies.

This week on “The Friday Brief” … Let’s get right into it, with a couple of acquisitions leading the way. Eutecma acquired Tempaid in a cold chain packaging deal, where the combined company will specialize in end-to-end thermal packaging. Fresenius, meanwhile, bought out the remaining 45% of mAbxience from Insud Pharma, securing full ownership of the biosimilars company.

Billions being put in play by top pharma companies. Novo Nordisk inked a $2.6 billion licensing deal with Hengrui Pharma for an oral GLP-1 candidate. AstraZeneca made a $2 billion equity investment in Summit Therapeutics, also entering a clinical collaboration with that oncology company.

BioMed X and AbbVie are launching what is their third research project in an ongoing collaboration. They want to find the circuit mechanisms underlying anhedonia—the diminished ability to experience pleasure.

Samsung Bioepis and Teva entered into a global agreement for up to six potential biosimilar candidates. The Gates Foundation extended its funding supporting AN2 Therapeutics’ ongoing tuberculosis research in collaboration with GSK.

Elsewhere, United Immunity announced a master clinical supply agreement with Roche for an anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibody checkpoint inhibitor. And while not quite billions, Genentech, part of the Roche Group, broke ground on a $750 million expansion in Oregon.

One more thing—we will be at CPHI Milan next week, so stop by and meet us there. We’ll be at 16F503.
